Kim Vorrath, who recently helped get the Vision Pro software out the door and has been at Apple for 36 years, has been brought over to Apple\u2019s artificial intelligence and machine learning division and will serve as a \u201ctop deputy\u201d to AI boss John Giannandrea, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-01-24\/apple-enlists-company-veteran-kim-vorrath-to-help-fix-ai-and-siri?srnd=undefined\"><em>Bloomberg<\/em> reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The company made a big splash about its AI \/ Apple Intelligence efforts at WWDC last year, but they haven\u2019t had the same impact as things like OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT or Google\u2019s Gemini. Apple has also been slowly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/10\/28\/24279804\/apple-intelligence-ios-18-1-siri-ai\">rolling<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/12\/12\/24318840\/ios-18-2-apple-intelligence-chatgpt-genmoji-image-playground\">out<\/a> what it announced, and a big Siri upgrade that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/6\/10\/24175405\/wwdc-apple-ai-news-features-ios-18-macos-15-iphone-ipad-mac\">lets it understand<\/a> what\u2019s happening on your screen and take action <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/7\/7\/24193619\/apple-intelligence-better-siri-ios-18-4-spring-public-launch\">may not arrive until iOS 18.4<\/a>. And the company\u2019s AI-powered news notification summaries will be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2025\/1\/6\/24337681\/apple-intelligence-summary-bbc-news-luigi-mangione-response\">put on pause with iOS 18.3<\/a> after criticism that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2025\/1\/6\/24337681\/apple-intelligence-summary-bbc-news-luigi-mangione-response\">the summaries were incorrect<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>By bringing on Vorrath, whose resume at Apple includes work on the original iPhone software group, over to the AI team, it appears Apple wants to bring more rigor to Apple\u2019s AI development. It also indicates that Apple may see AI as a bigger deal for its future <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/24303262\/apple-vision-pro-vr-mainstream-meta-glasses\">than the Vision Pro<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Bloomberg<\/em> also reports that \u201cthe artificial intelligence group is focused on revamping the underlying infrastructure of Siri and improving the company\u2019s in-house AI models\u201d this year, per a memo from Giannandrea.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Image: Cath Virginia \/ The Verge Apple is making an executive change to try and improve its AI efforts and Siri.
